Details of Races (elapsed times/corrected times)

Tomales Series Race Director: Steve Sarsfield, (707) 829-2788

September 25, 2011

Light rain and calm south winds greeted the sailors at the first day of the Tomales Fall Series. Five boats were at the start line for the first race with light west wind. The second race began in the same conditions but soon became a test of nerves as the wind almost died and the ebb made rounding the windward mark a challenge. When just about the end of this snail ride the northwesterlies kicked in and drove the boats to the finish. The moderate northwesterlies stayed consistent for the third race providing a quick 'twice around' for all. The sun was out as folks put their boats away. All in all another fine day on one of the finest local sailing locations. Standings are close after the first day, with plenty of place changes during the races.

October 23, 2011

Today's South wind required a new setup, with the start-finish-leeward gate set off the east shore northwest of Marconi cove and the windward mark set southwest of Marconi Cove about 2/3 of the way across the Bay. Race 1 was once around, while Races 2 and 3 were twice around. It was a beautiful, sunny, warm day. Wallace (with Mark as crew) sailed off Marconi Cove during the races, but chose not to race.

October 30, 2011

Another perfect sailing day on Tomales Bay greeted the skippers and crews for the final day of the Fall Series; with moderate to light winds and almost no chop. Two Lasers and three FJ's sailed two short courses and one long race to Marshall. All agreed to count the long race for the Drag Race Trophy, which was won by Emilio Castelli. After the boats were secured and the barbecue started the scores for the days racing were calculated and the winner of the 2011 Fall Series was determined to be Doug Howson. This is Doug's second season win at Tomales. The season ended with food, drink, sunshine and memories of great racing with good friends. See you all next year.
